American Epic Sessions

Interesting concept, recording modern artists with vintage equipment. I was surprised by the quality of the sound. Enjoy!

People's Place Music Jam

It it pretty obvious from this recording that we have fun with these tunes. The first two were recorded at The People's Place in Gardner MA. on June 3, 2017

From the archives I'm repeating a video of the Williams Brothers doing the tender song, "I Love You Like a Pig Loves Slop". Reed performed this last night with the same level of intensity.

2016 Election - Trump's Glory Days

I thought of this song today after watching just a bit of Donny's greatest hits rally in Pennsylvania. He relived all the election day glory and the crowd sang his greatest hits. "USA", "Lock Her Up" etc. He even got to throw a protester out. He looked so happy, even happier than when he got to drop the big bomb and have that beautiful chocolate cake.

...Now I think I'm going down to the well tonight
And I'm going to drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it
But I probably will
Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
A little of the glory of, well time slips away
And leaves you with nothing mister but
Boring stories of glory days - Bruce Springsteen

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

What would do without a free press? After the election I subscribed to both the New York Times and the Washington Post. That money is well spent.

Life Accordion to Trump

Remember when President Clinton played the saxophone? It's always nice to see musical talents in our political leader. Donald also has some musical talents as well as the creator of this video @rabbitandcoffee (Huw Parkinson).

And then there is this

Iesu No Ke Kahuhipa (Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us)

In 1972 was still finishing up my Navy service and was unable to attend my cousin Marcia's wedding. She was living in Hawaii with her husband and my cousins sang this beautiful Hawaiian adaptation of an old hymn (Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us) at their wedding ceremony.

Just recently I rediscovered a 1972 recording that my cousin's husband had made. Thanks to YouTube and Google I not only found the lyrics, but a good idea how to play it on the guitar.

One staple of Hawaiian music is Slack-key Guitar in which the instrument is tuned to open tunings. I noticed in the video that Jesse Tinsley seemed to playing in an open G tuning (most of the strings are tuned down, "slackened"). The "E" string is slackened to ""D" giving a lovely bass note.

Here are two renditions, the first is my cousins and the next is my YouTube find. Enjoy!
